ANOTHER STRONG DAY AS KELSEY SERWA AND CHRIS DEL BOSCO TAKE GOLD AND ASHLEIGH MCIVOR A BRONZE AT THE WORLD CUP EVENT IN ALPE D¢ï¿½ï¿½HUEZ, FRANCE

Alpe d’Huez (January 13, 2010) –  After a very fortunate turn of events for the Canada Ski Cross Team, at Alpe d’Hue, France,  Kelsey Serwa (Kelowna, BC) took home her first Gold on the World Cup Circuit; Chris Del Bosco (Sudbury, ONT) took home his second World Cup victory and Ashleigh McIvor (Whistler, BC) continued on her podium roll posting her third podium of the season, taking the bronze medal.

Last season’s “Rookie of the Year”, Kelsey Serwa stood on the top of the podium today after posting the fastest qualification time. This was the 3rd time on the podium for the Kelowna native after a 3rd last season at St. Johann, AUT and a 2nd at last season’s World Cup Finals in La Plagne, France.

The Race Organizing Committee cancelled the elimination rounds of today’s event  due to poor weather conditions, resulting in the times from the qualification runs establishing the final race results. When asked about the race Serwa said, “It felt pretty cool to stand on the top of the podium for sure. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to race the heats but I picked a great day to win the qualification round so that’s pretty cool.”

Chris Del Bosco (Sudbury, ONT) returned to the top of the podium today after he also posted the fasted qualification time edging out the #1 ranked Ski Cross athlete, Thomas Kraus (CZE). This marks Del Bosco’s second World Cup win with his first coming at last season’s Cypress Mt. World Cup, Olympic Test event.

When asked about the weather and the heat cancellation Del Bosco said, “It’s just part of our sport, being a snow sport, sometimes the weather is not great sunshine and you have to race when the conditions aren’t ideal; some of the other countries felt differently and it was a little frustrating, but I’ll take the win.”

Ashleigh McIvor (Whistler, BC) continues to be a dominant force for this season after placing 3rd today, bringing her medal count to one gold, silver and today’s bronze in the last five races. Her continued success makes her a threat for the World Cup overall title and undoubtedly bodes well for her Olympic debut.

“I was a little disappointed that we didn’t race today, I’ve skied in worse; I grew up in Whistler after all! We all wanted to race and determine the Ski Cross winner for the event but the fastest people on the course won today, the course is a really good course lots of air and great features and it’s likely that the results after the heats would have been similar” said McIvor.

Julia Murray (Whistler, BC) continued to ski well placing 4th while Brady Leman (Calgary, AB) and Aleisha Cline (Squamish, BC) also had good showing when they both took 6th spot for the day. Stanley Hayer (Calgary, AB) was 10th, Danielle Poleschuk was 12th and Dave Duncan was 15th.

NEXT RACE COMES TO YOU FROM BLUE MOUNTAIN, CANADA ON JANUARY 20TH, 2010.
