01.31.10 - CANADIANS MAKE HISTORY AT X-GAMES 14 WITH THE FIRST EVER NATION SWEEP OF THE MEN'S PODIUM AND A SILVER AND BRONZE IN THE WOMEN'S EVENT

Aspen, CO (January 31, 2010) - In the final competition before the Olympic Winter Games the Canadian Ski Cross Team continued their winning ways as Chris Del Bosco (Sudbury, ON), Dave Duncan (London, ON, living in Golden) and Brady Leman (Calgary, AB) made history becoming the fist nation to sweep the Men's Podium in X-Games competition. Ashleigh McIvor (Whistler, BC) and Kelsey Serwa (Kelowna, BC) continued their podium streak as they took 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Coming off his win in Lake Placid, NY last week, Del Bosco continued to show dominance out of the start as he took the hole shot in every heat today. "My game plan today was to get out early and never look back and that's what I did," said Del Bosco, "in this course you run the risk of being a sitting duck if you're out in front, so I kept the passes to the outside never really giving them a chance to pass and held the heats wire to wire."  When asked how this second win in as many weeks sets him up for the games Del Bosco replied, "I am having fun with what I'm doing and that allows me to ski loose and relaxed, everything is clicking at the right time and it feels good."

Dave Duncan continued to step up his game on the road to Vancouver as he too showed strength out of the start and indomitable spirit on the course. Duncan has shown great talent this season as he fought his way onto the Olympic team by posting solid results all season with two 3rds so far in this World Cup season and today's Silver in the X-Games.

Brady Leman, coming off of a fractured leg at the end of last season, posted his best ever result today when he took home the Bronze medal after hard icy conditions at the early season World Cups hampered his full return to competition. "Leman has shown tremendous grit in the last couple of races, and as a result has posted his career best results. Those early courses really hurt his recovery but he's making up for lost time now," said Eric Archer, Head Coach.

Ashleigh McIvor continues to shine this season as she placed 2nd marking today as her best ever X-Game result. Dominant out of the start, McIvor moved out of Semifinal round and into the finals where she met, World Cup point leader, Ophellie David (FRA). Taking the hole shot out of the start McIvor lead for most of the race until a minor error over a jump left the door open to a drafting David to slingshot by.

"This was an awesome course, built with big features and great take offs and landings similar to what we'll see in Cypress, I've got some serious confidence right now and I feel like I'm skiing better than I ever have" said McIvor. "It's good to know that I'm competitive out of the start with the top women in the sport, sure I was a little disappointed I wasn't able to hold the lead in the final, but if it's going to happen then let it be one of the best competitors in Ski Cross."

Kelsey Serwa followed up on last weeks win with another trip to the podium when she took 3rd today. Serwa has steadily ramped up her efforts as the Games draw closer with 2 Gold medals and today's Bronze medal in the last 4 events. Also strong out of the start, Serwa showed her smarts by never getting flustered and sticking to her game plan.

When asked about his team and the trip to the X-Games, Head Coach, Eric Archer said, "this has been the best training camp ever. The athletes got a ton of time on a course that in many ways will look like Cypress. The track was demanding at one minute and 30 seconds long it was a great way to end off a long stretch on the road, now it's home for a little recuperation, the athletes are piquing at the perfect time and we are ready for Vancouver."

Davey Barr (Squamish, BC) and Aleisha Cline (Squamish, BC) also skied to the finals today both taking 5th place while Stanley Hayer (Kimberley, BC) and Danielle Poleschuk (Winnipeg, MN) won the small final placing 7th on the day.   The X-Games format consists of heats of 6 competitors as opposed to the World Cup, where the heats consist of 4 competitors in each heat.

THE NEXT SKI CROSS ACTION WILL BE IN VANCOUVER WHEN SKI CROSS MAKES ITS OLYMPIC DEBUT WITH THE MEN'S EVENT TAKING PLACE ON FEBRUARY 21ST AND WOMEN'S ON FEBRUARY 23RD.
