One On One With...
What are your goals for 2010?
My goals for 2010 are to represent Canada and be in contention for a medal.
How did you get into your sport (i.e. other Olympians in family?)
I got into Ski Cross after a long (well long for me) alpine career. I was watching the success of the Canadian team and watching the sport of ski cross grow. I couldn't resist the chance I had to
try my chances at it.
Describe a bit about your hometown, about how you got started there in your sport.
I grew up in Calgary, and spent a lot of time at Canada Olympic Park. I way always active, competed in many different sports all year round, but spent most of my time at ski hills. MY whole
family has always been involved in the ski industry, my mom at a couple of ski hills, and my dad as a ski coach. So it was only natural for me to take up racing.
How were you supported by your community growing up there?
Having COP in my backyard made it easy to grow up as an active kid. There was always lots of stuff to keep me busy in the community.
What is it about your hometown that inspired you in your sport?
Spending all the time that I did at COP I was constantly surrounded by the 1988 games legacy. Since I was little I have had the dream to compete in the games.
How were you impacted by where you grew up?
Growing up in Calgary It was very easy to lead an active lifestyle. I think that having the mountains so close and such good skiing every weekend as a kid. That really pushed me to chase Olympic
dreams.
How would you describe yourself?
I would describe myself as very hard working and driven. I train hard and I pour my heart and soul into every aspect of the sport from off season to on the hill and into the ski room. Off
the hill I am easy going, like to have a good time and have a good sarcastic sense of humor.
What is one of the biggest challenges you've faced in reaching your goals in this sport?
For sure the biggest challenge I have overcome in my sport has been the financial challenge of team and travel fees as a newcomer to the game. Luckily I have my whole family behind me not
only mentally, but also financially.
What do you consider of one of your biggest accomplishments to date?
My biggest accomplishment so far I guess would have to be 7th at the x games. But I really don't feel I have filled my potential yet, I wont be happy until I Reach the podium, that will be an
accomplishment
What other interests do you have outside your sport?
I have a ton of other active hobbies, I play on a rec league soccer team, ride moto cross, golf, wakeboard, mountain bike, etc .....
