The Rundown:
Home Hill:
Whistler/Blackcomb
Race Experience:
A life time of alpine racing experience capped off with five years racing on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team at the World Cup level and competing in the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Ski Cross Experience:
Ski Cross was just coming out when I was retiring from Alpine racing and I never competed for fear of maiming myself or others as I’m extremely competitive. However I was deceptively fast in
training at the 2009 Canadian Championships prior to being pulled by the Head Coach. Working with the Canadian Ski Cross Team this past year was an awesome experience and huge learning curve.
I’ll be honest and admit that I’m probably living vicariously through our athletes and I constantly find my heart racing at the events watching them compete. It’s hard not to get fired up
watching them when they switch into race mode and kick ass. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to help them win!!
Personal Experience:
I have been coaching for over 15 years at all levels of racers from K1 to the National Alpine Ski Team and my levels of certification are CSCF III, CSIA IV, CFSA I. Prior to coming to the
Canadian Ski Cross team I was the Technical Director at the Whistler Mountain Ski Club where I directed the K1, K2, FIS Core, FIS High Performance, Masters and BC Ski Cross programs. Finally and
most importantly I am now a proud new father of James Michael Raine and married to Kennedy Raine so while I am a man of many skills I’m not beyond diaper duty and swaddling!!
What he brings to the table:
I am extremely passionate about our team, the Olympics and the sport of ski cross. I’m pretty relaxed under pressure, an eternal optimist and the type of person who can find humor in almost
any circumstance.
